Frequently asked questions

Does Queensland have specific smoke alarm laws?

Yes. Queensland requires compliant interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in residential dwellings. Deadlines and requirements vary depending on the property type, its age and its rental or sale status. HNN Electrical can assess your property and explain what applies.

Do alarms need to be hardwired?

It depends on the dwelling and the existing installation. New homes and substantial renovations require hardwired installations, and existing hardwired alarms generally require appropriate hardwired replacements. Some dwellings can use non-removable 10-year battery powered alarms. HNN Electrical can advise on what is appropriate for your property.

What is involved in a smoke alarm assessment?

We test existing alarms, check battery condition, confirm alarm placement and identify any compliance issues. We then advise on what work, if any, is needed.

Can you replace a single alarm?

Yes. Contact us to arrange a visit and we can assess the property and advise on the appropriate work.
